Let Us Prey
I saw this picture and liked it immediately, but I didn't know the bird's species. I think when I took the photo, that I probably thought it to be a chickadee - hmmm ... I'm a poet and don't know it. As it turns out, the bird is a Carolina wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus). My wife came in while I was working with the photo and said: "a bird in prayer?" because the bird looking down looks like a bowed head. She wants me to get an acrylic print of the photo. The wren is likely looking for insect prey.
"Insects and spiders make up the bulk of this wren’s diet. Common foods include caterpillars, moths, stick bugs, leafhoppers, beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, and cockroaches. Carolina Wrens occasionally eat lizards, frogs, or snakes ..." - allaboutbirds.org
