Norman Bethune was a committed communist and internationalist doctor who not only believed that health should always be a right for all but fought for a society that would make this a reality.

After joining the Communist Party of Canada, he volunteered to join the fight against fascism in the Spanish Civil War. Shortly thereafter, he joined a medical brigade to support the Chinese people's struggle against fascism and imperialism in the Second Sino-Japanese War.
