In all seriousness, I do wonder if the media and activists have been deliberately translating a vaguely offensive Italian word for maximum outrage. Eg, he’s about the same age as Mr Dog Treat, and I can well imagine the latter saying “fairy” or “poofter” or any number of now-outdated terms with no malice.
