I agree. The French state can be coercive in its quest for inclusion and 'solidarité'. While its good that they fund it - and there is a logic to consistent provision rather than the lottery of different family lives in a society devoted to 'égalité et fraternité', a more relaxed approach to this provision - and to things like home-schooling, which is widely frowned on - would I think be preferable.
