“May we live in interesting times.”

Curse or blessing?

Always a blessing, in my opinion.

Novelty keeps life moving. To resist change or remain stagnant invites excess entropy - the kind of chaos that builds unnoticed until it demands a price.

The wise stay curious, leaning into what they don’t yet understand, finding strength in adaptability.

Take snow in South Carolina, for example.

It’s rare to get 2-3 inches of snow here, let alone have it linger for days. Growing up with family from Buffalo, NY, snow doesn’t usually impress me - they moved south for a reason. But as a photographer, I’ll always take an unexpected snowfall as a chance to step outside and engage with light, texture, and color in ways I don’t often get to.

Embracing the cold has been part of my routine for years now. Cold showers every morning - not because I enjoy them but because I’ve learned to appreciate what they build: resilience. Starting the day with something uncomfortable makes it easier to face bigger challenges head-on.

Stepping barefoot into the snow has become another ritual; a reminder of what the body can endure when the mind allows it.

Yesterday I walked three miles to the grocery store since the roads were too slick to drive. It turns out that this town doesn’t own a single snowplow. Should I be surprised? Probably not. Snow like this is a novelty here - an anomaly.

Here are some photographs I made over the past few days. I hope you may enjoy them.

Made with my Leica M262.
