The WebFinger protocol is pretty cool. It lets you ask a server about its users.

Every fediverse server should support this, including yours. If you go to/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:YourUserName@yourserver.com you will get back JSON with your urls including the url to your avatar photo. Pretty easy API, if you wanted to pull in the avatars from a list of fediverse addresses.
