A Schwarzbier is a dark Lager with a little roasty touch. Older interpretations are made with Munich malt and roasted barley and taste very malty. The more modern interpretations follow the same concept as Czech dark Lagers: Make a pale Lager and throw in Carafa Special 2 until the beer is black.
The most well-known example is Köstritzer. A nice, slightly schwarzbroty and very pintable beer that holds a special place in my heart because of my trips to that Thuringian abbey.
