Prescription medicine costs are reimbursed by the state on a sliding scale going up to 100%, the maximum out of pocket per year is about $700. Additional support is available for the very needy.
There is an extra paragovernmental insurance available. None of this requires holding a job.
For this, social security, free ed through university, a (small) pension and many other things we pay roughly 50% income tax and 25% VAT.
