Here are some pictures of Herne Bay Pier for #MeerMittwoch. The pier has had a chequered history and this, its third incarnation, was completed in 1899. It was once 1.1 km long, with the pier head acting as a landing stage for steamers which couldn't get any closer to the shore. In 1978, a storm permanently severed the pier head from the rest of the pier, but it still stands today, marooned amongst the wind turbines.
