I recently found out some news about someone I've known and loved all my life.
This is a person I've had what feels like an odd relationship with: at times extremely close (as in, I was instrumental in helping them through acute grief immediately after their spouse died) and at other times so distant as to feel indifferent and cold to me.
I don't think I ever resented or felt bitter over it. I just always felt a mix of puzzlement and hurt. I never wanted to end the relationship...
