Anyone have any pointers on changing what gets put in the clipboard when copying things from an HTML document?

I have some HTML that I know (by design) is derived from markdown, and when copied I want to put the markdown in the clipboard rather than the HTML. This would meaningfully improve the user experience; it'd make quoting-with-formatting easier, for example.

Is that possible?
