Among many other problems in the tech industry is that fundamental "Keep the lights on" work like infrastructure and testing is underappreciated and under rewarded, whereas "build new features and functionality that nobody asked for" is the thing that gets all the attention from management, bonuses, investors, etc. I don't know how to make stability, uptime and reliability "sexy", but God I wish core functionality could be a fundamental and reliable utility that new features could be axed the moment they put reliability at risk.
