Geology meets ecology as I play at painting rocks and lichens.
A basalt intrusion (mafic/basic) has an entirely different and colourful lichen community to the Lewisian gneiss (felsic/acid) it passes through. From a photo taken on Raasay, NW Scotland.
Not altogether successful but it was fun.
