The original mission was simply to grow lotuses (i.e. Nelumbo nucifera) but one thing leads to another so now there's leaf litter to be cleaned up and no one living there to eat it. Underneath all this is a little pile of old compost, hidden below layers of loam and gravel. The water is much clearer than I thought it'd be – especially after the petshop guaranteed that, without an expensive filter, it'd be dark and thick by now.
