Unpopular view but I gotta say it: Why is setting up zaps payments on every nostr client so ludicrously difficult? For the ave user I'd say its 10x harder even than recieving and sending bitcoin. And most struggle with that. Unless you have your own server, and capable of setting up domains, nginx/appache etc, you ain't sending or recieving zaps on nostr! Don't expect paid for custodial services to help ave users either, LNURL nodes are hard to find or figure out how set up, most people wont have a clue where to find one or how to register and how to integrate into nostr - none of the clients explain much either. Look at Snort : what even are those zap settings ? There's no help pages. No hints. No links. No explainers. Nadda. It seems to me that the ONLY viable solution for 99.9% of people right now if they want to use zaps is to use Alby. And even thats tricky and confusing for many users even compared to trad bitcoin payment solutions. Browser plugins suck. But my bigger concern with Alby is that it makes most zap payments on Nostr almost entirely centralised. Theres no other solution right now for most people. And why would any serious bitcoiner recommend custodial solutions that require registration, personal data, that provide little privacy and allow tracking of spending habits and ip etc. Its terrible. Really terrible. And yet its what most will have no choice but to use if they want to zap. I'm wondering, how can we persuade Twitter users that paying 7$ a month to Elon musk is actually a worse solution. A LNURL node can cost this much to run yourself. Until there's a sensible solution for zaps (and clear easy documentation for ave users) its not safe for most users to jump into lightning payments, but it ain't gonna happen anyway if it remains this complicated. I run my own nodes and servers and even I find lightning painful. I wish Nostr devs would just drop the whole zaps stuff to be honest. Encouraging everyone to monetise every post for sats is unhealthy , transactional conversations allows those willing to pay good money for certain views to dominate. And it is tarnishing an otherwise great, nay, superb protocol.
