My ISP finally pulled the last shenanigans they'll ever play on me, and I've pulled the plug on them.
I've been a customer of CenturyLink (nee Qwest) for more than 15 years. Internet service options SUUUCK in #Boulder so I chose their DSL over Comcast in a heartbeat. For the past five years I've used pair-bonded DSL, where I pay for two separate copper lines to each bring 40mbps, with a total that should approach 80mbps, but that hadn't been delivering much above 20mpbs (in total) for a couple of months.
So last month I was experiencing problems with my modem, and service has been degrading and getting worse since the late summer, so I called Tech support. The tech couldn't find anything wrong, so they shunted me to sales, who told me that my gradually-creeping-upward monthly rate could be cut in half.
I said "sounds good" but didn't realize until a week later that the rate cut came with a halving of the speed I was getting.
So now I was down to 40mbps. And when I called to complain, the Centurylink person told me 'oh, sorry, our system can't support' that thing they had been doing for years.
So I found a local broadband provider and today I cut the cord to CL once and for all. I'm getting 100mbps down *and* 50mbps upstream (which is great for the research work I do), and I couldn't be happier.
Moral of the story: When your ISP FA, ensure that you instruct them in the FO.
