I don't need the 14-year-old who shot 30 people to be "tried as an adult".
I need the system that caused a 14-year-old to have access to a gun and to want to shoot random people at his school to be fixed.
Locking up a child for the rest of his life (or allowing the state to murder him) won't bring anyone back, or heal the injuries of the living victims.
But fixing a toxic culture awash in guns and radicalizing messages aimed at young boys might save future lives.
