Not an April 1 joke. Call your grandparents / parents today to tell them you love them 💜.
My grandmother died last night 😭
She was my last remaining biological grandparent. The perfect embodiment of fun loving and nurturing. I miss her dearly.
I was able to say my goodbyes in 2022 before dementia rendered her unable to speak over the past few months. We finished a puzzle together and watched Wimbledon, things we did nearly every summer together. She was a card shark, among many things, teaching me bridge and canasta, allowing me to win enough to remain hopeful and confident but beat me enough to show who was boss and that winning doesn’t come easily.
Her passing is the hardest so far. We were so close, her eldest grandson. It’s like I’m finally experiencing the full grief of losing all my grandparents with her passing. Sad day even though all the happy memories continue to flow in.
