Leon. I had not seen Leon in three decades at least. My son and I watched it together a couple of weeks back, and I have to say it's stood the test of time quite well. Jean Reno is, of course, the central character, Leon, the cleaner who does the Mafia's dirty job and is both a very cynical and a very naïve lead. Opposite him are a stunning 12 year old Nathalie Portman as Mathilda, and a super creepy Gary Oldman as the bad guy. The central point of the movie, and what makes it stand out is the unhealthy relationship between Mathilda and Leon. Despite the fact that nothing untowards happens between them, I'm not sure the movie could be made today simply because the nuances of understanding her teenage crush on him are no longer part of the public discourse. It's definitely something that made me feel uneasy as a viewer, but I believe that was by design, and as it should. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend it. #movie #thriller #mafia
