never thought I'd say this but it seems the UK system isn't that bad in comparison - the blue container is big enough to hold 2 weeks of recycling and I tend to fill it more than the general rubbish so presumably its contents do get recycled (they are certainly sorted separately as I mentioned previously and there's definitely a local market for the metal and paper and some of the plastic)
