God I hate the word “collective.” It’s laden with so much baggage, an implicit idea of a group of people acting as a unitary organism without dissent.
People should be free to reach *cooperative and voluntary* agreements with whomever they please. When free, people can and do strive to reach consensus agreements with other people in their community, which produce all kinds of benefits.
But there is not and cannot be some “collective” actor that supersedes the individual.
