That's the key point. When Threads fully federates it will become the flagship instance, which any new user is likely to join by default. It doesn't matter if the existing fediverse tries to “teach it a lesson”, or whatever. The existing fedi will be a microdot on the margin by comparrisson. And just like today I mostly try to stay compatible with whatever Mastodon is doing, that locus of developer influence will shift to Zuck and whatever advertising horrors he tries to bestow.
