It's a quality thing and a tactile thing. Mechanical keyboards usually have a metal case and the extra parts make it heftier and more solid feeling. Typing has the feeling of old-style keyboards where every keystroke is a full action, something like typing on a manual typewriter.
And $75 is cheap considering what high-end Microsoft/Logitech keyboards go for. Some mechanicals go for $300+.
