The Lake Almanor earthquakes (near Susanville) are along a fault zone along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada just south of where the mountains transition to Cascade volcanoes (specifically Lassen Peak).
This part of the Sierra contains active uplift, which I think is related to stretching of the Basin and Range Province (Sierra to Wasatch) on its east-west axis now that a subduction zone that caused east-west mashing as recently as the Eocene is gone.
