They've been algorithmically trading stocks since the 80s. It caused a huge stock crash back then: Everyone set their computer to start selling if their stocks went below a certain price, then they did, so everyone dumped at once, so everyone's computers kept selling and it was the middle of the night so no one noticed. Then they woke up the next morning and all their stocks had been sold at bargain basement prices to human traders in east asia somewhere.
