Yeah, for Java I exclusively go with Flatpak or docker when needed. And I should say so far it have been very smooth experience (unlike natively running java programs on my distros).
I should also add that few years back when I was still too young and naive and full of false hopes, I installed conda on my Ubuntu and that comes with it's own java which was out dated and caused me lots of headache. That experience left a bad taste for me.
