Seems there is no longer a product on the market similar to 18th century orgeat. This was akin to barley water. Instead you get *sirop de* orgeat, which is a drink mixer consisting of water, sugar and bitter almond flavouring.
I've found a recipe from Mary Randolph's *The Virginia House-wife* (1838), p. 70. It consists of milk, almonds, sugar, cinnamon and rose water. I'm going to replicate this using almond milk from the grocery store.
