I looked forward to Monday mornings. If the firm did well they would pay staff a bonus. This was a flat rate sum, the same for the directors as the shop floor. There were no fat cat bonuses.
I also think this reflects society pre Thatcher. Virtually everyone lived in a small radius of the factory, so could engage in social activities together, and supported each other.
