Looks like they found another H5N1 infected cougar out on the Peninsula. That makes four wild ones, plus the dozens of wild cats that died (so far) at the Shelton sanctuary. Given that they're primarily finding the animals with radio collars, this doesn't bode well for the likely death toll of these magnificent and quite solitary animals off in the forests.
Given the territorial ranges of cougars, it's estimated that only around 2,000 of these animals exist in Washington.
