I made fruit syrup from red and pink currants that I harvested last summer and stored in the freezer until now. I will use this syrup to flavor homemade kombucha and milk kefir. It's fun to cook with some of the colors and flavors of summer in the middle of wintertime.
Currants are one of the only fruits (that I know of) which prefer to grow in partial to full shade. It's nice to have the ability to grow food in an area that would otherwise be dedicated to shade-loving flowers.
