Having made good kernel progress today, I’m going to go to the living room, kick my feet up, and not stress about coding for a bit.

I’m really enjoying seeing my progress speed up now that I can iterate on software rather than hardware. It’s just a fact of life that code can be changed much faster than copper and silicon. Mistakes cost less in money and time, and you can try as many times as you like.

The hardware is behaving exceptionally well. Every problem so far in this prototype has been either a redundant part or a misunderstanding of the register interface on my part.

By the time we get a decent kernel built, enough of the functions of the design will be tested to make the SMD version worth laying out - because we will know it’ll work. It’s a lot easier to sell, say, 100 people on a known working design with active software development (arbitrary number chosen to get good discounts on parts and PCBs).

I might also make a slightly modified iteration of the current board, correcting the minor flaws, specifically to sell as kits.
