One feature of Nostr that is in a weird kind of limbo is that of the direct message (DM). NIP-04, the first DM spec, was deemed vulnerable to attack which led to the development and audit of NIP-44. As a private direct messaging specification, it is not perfect but it was the best we have at this time.
This job is to answer the question, which clients support NIP-44?
This job is complete when the question has been answered for all of the popular Mobile and Web clients listed at nostr.net plus any other client with more than 50 github stars. NIP-44 was merged on Dec 20th, 2023 so any client which hasn't been updated since then can be ruled out.
The deliverable will be a list of DM-supporting clients showing yes/no on NIP-44 support and for supporting clients a link to the PR or commit when NIP-44 support was merged or to the announcement of release.
