The US is a country where one go to “make your dreams come true”. In other words - you are alone with no actual social safety net to support you. The US is in that sense an extremely individualistic country. In Europe several countries have social aspect with safety nets. Those cost money. And who pays for that? Everyone working. That creates a big difference in perspectives.
