The young Japanese woman (right in photo) who was my roommate in San Francisco in the 1970s, and who became the initial impetus for my deciding to move to Japan, returned to Japan in the 1980s and wrote hit songs for pop stars including Tahara Toshihiko and Shonentai. Years later, my own daughter appeared on NHK in a trio of singers accompanying a performance by Higashiyama, the Shonentai leader. Is this a case of life coming full circle?
