I think I found why incest is such a common theme in anime and hentai: Izanagi and Izanami in the Shinto origin myth were brother and sister, who had a lot of offspring together. Back then it wasn't known that incest is unhealthy, so in the myth the fact that the first child went wrong is falsely attributed to Izanami, the woman, speaking right before sex.
