Last year I was disabled and could not keep up the garden. We have never had such an explosion of insects and birds. Even with species decline, our local raft of land here was covered up with diverse life! I decided to continue like that, even when I felt better. This winter we pretty much left things as they lay. We put out suet and seeds as usual. The chicken feed is always out, too. But this year the added birds did not come. There are in fact almost no birds. It's worrying.
