I didn’t know about the Total Information Awareness program and #DerrickBroze makes a good case that #ElonMusk is building the infrastructure that could serve a similar purpose for the #Surveillance state.
Some info on the TIA program:
The Total Information Awareness (TIA) program was a surveillance and data-mining project developed by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the early 2000s. The program aimed to create a vast database containing all available information on individuals, including financial, medical, educational, and personal data. This information would then be analyzed using advanced data-mining techniques to identify patterns and predict future behaviors, allowing for more effective surveillance and counter-terrorism efforts.
TIA was heavily criticized for its potential violation of privacy and civil liberties, as well as its Orwellian nature. The program's logo, which featured a pyramid with all-seeing eyes and the phrase "Total Information Awareness," was also seen as eerily reminiscent of the dystopian society portrayed in George Orwell's novel "1984." In response to these concerns, the program was rebranded as the "Terrorism Information Awareness" program and was eventually defunded in 2003. However, many of its underlying technologies and concepts have since been incorporated into other government surveillance programs.
