On the one hand I feel kinda sorry for folks getting caught up in the water issues in the US west, but on the other it's hard to think that growing a hugely water-intensive crop like alfalfa (which wants *lots* of water, nearly almond-tree amounts) in the desert is a good idea.
I'm not sure growing *anything* for export in the desert is a great idea, but definitely not alfalfa.
