After decades of this, a large portion of the public has learned to distrust all politicians. They choose to not vote, or to Chris's original post, flip their vote based on whatever current message catches their eye.

To me, this explains Brexit, Trump and the popularity of "burn it all down" radicals.

I also think this is no accident, and is being cultivated to undermine democracy from within.
