Today is Point Elliott Treaty Day here in the northwest part of #WashingtonState, including #Seattle, #EverettWA, #BellinghamWA, & much of #PugetSound & the #SalishSea. On this day in 1855 the United States signed a treaty with representatives of local sovereign native nations that provides the legal foundation for all non-native settlement in this area, including ongoing legal obligations that we have to our #indigenous neighbors.
