If fiction-writing isn’t intrinsically motivating for its own sake, it can be too much of a slog and it can be better to seek out other hobbies that feel more rewarding. “Writing” sometimes gets elevated like it’s a morally superior way to spend one’s time, but it’s not.

Maybe once your work situation resolves, you’ll feel a little better about it.

I don’t want to make assumptions, but are you someone who struggles with the idea of doing something purely for your own sake? As in, you can only spend time doing something you enjoy if it has a purpose or is for someone else, otherwise it feels like a waste of time or too selfish?
