Layer 1 is all the thing you said, and it has to be like that in order to fall in the correct side of the trilemma.
Other cryptos can only be compared with the layer 2/3 of bitcoin. So, keeping it simple, if I have to choose, I choose the one with the most reliable base layer to "play" with. The one that was not founded by anyone with just making other money as interest.
