The cancer runs so deep. Some civic-minded people suggest we should all get involved in local politics to try and stop this from the grassroots. I've known of upstanding citizens become councillors in towns and counties, only to then co-opted (compromised?) and become pliant minions. Eventually, some of them “progress" upwards to higher offices and there you have it. We are no better than banana republics and 3rd world countries.
