It’s so hard talking to a Bluesky fan because they keep saying stuff like, “This <feature> is what Bluesky will do better than ActivityPub.”
And my immediate reply is, “Bluesky doesn’t do that now.”
To which they inevitably say, “But Bluesky soon will, and ActivityPub will be left behind.”
Then I counter, “How do you know ActivityPub won’t deliver <feature> in due time? And why is Bluesky’s <feature>—which is yet to come—more important than all the features used with ActivityPub that Bluesky doesn’t yet have?”
I’m not saying Bluesky isn’t a big deal. But I also recognize a tech hype cycle when I see one.
