I found a bunch of research on Santa Ana winds while arguing with someone online. They were saying that the increased ocean temps were leading to larger Santa Ana winds which sustained the fires.
Long story short, what I found out was: the winds help a fire START, but the speed doesn't affect sustaining the fire that much, it does, but the increased speed doesn't; and, there is a much higher correlation with housing and population density.
