Today is my pop's born day.
So I asked him, what can I do today so that I am able to do the things he does at his age. I.e.
Climbing ladders and cutting tree branches in prep for incoming hurricane.
Maintaining gardens here, at my sisters place, and back in Haiti.
Riding his bicycle 5 miles (minimum) every day.
Cooks his own food everyday.
Grows his own food and raises his own animals.
Pops manages two family farms in Haiti (one of them goes back a few grandpa's). The other is pretty close to the mayhem that is in port au prince. So it's concerning. But he walks with God so he is not worried about things.
He flies more than I do every year. I no longer trust commercial airlines, so Ive kept that stuff to a minimum since all the old head pilots and mechanics retired during covid shutdowns. No offense towards the new pilots and mechanics. I just need a bit more time to evaluate that model in a high inflation environment.
He has 5 children and adopted 2 = 7 in total. He has 5 grandkids and 3 great grandkids.
He is a little slow with the reflex response so he doesn't drive in the US anymore. But for an emergency he could if he had to.
My pops came to America in 1967 and has never been pulled over by the police let alone get a traffic violation and he has driven his whole life.
He has never in his life set foot inside a bar.
Only attends family parties and events. You won't catch him at a networking event or happy hour. Not his thing and has never been.
He thinks I'm doing an awesome job with Mom.
I'm glad he is where he is doing what he is doing for the future of our family.
Bc if he wasn't where he is doing what he is doing than I would like be where I am doing what I am doing.
I didn't feel this way 8 or even 6 months ago. I was a pretty pissed dude. Scared. Worried. Fragmented.
I didn't realize I was where I was supposed to be or needed to be until a month or so ago.
Oh and yeah his answer "take care of your body, if God wills it, it will be so for you too. 👀
Word, I can get down with that.
