Renewing ties with Egypt after Nasser's death/All Lebanese leaders were taking bribes from everywhere/Anwar Sadat was a reasonable man who did not accept the United Arab Republic.

After the death of Abdel Nasser, there was a desire to re-establish relations with Iran, which started towards the end of his life. One of our ambassadors apparently had a conversation with the Egyptian ambassador in Belgrade, expressing his desire and submitting it, and there were also talks that Nasser had passed away. They instructed that the late Hoveida and others attend Nasser's funeral. An incentive for re-establishing relations was found, and relations between Iran and Egypt were re-established. However, the pedestal that the Arabs had built for Nasser for themselves was broken with the defeat of 1967 and the subsequent period of weakness, especially since Sadat was a very rational man and the first thing he said was that the United Arab Republic essentially means nothing.
