Protests should cause inconvenience and chaos, but the target of that inconvenience and chaos should be the people who are causing the problem, not regular people just going about their business. By all means, cause economic harm, but target the people who SHOULD be hurt by your economic harm. Shutting down busy commute traffic, for example, may bring attention but it does nothing to further your cause. It may in fact hurt your cause.
