Coming from Linux its just familiar enough that its easy to quickly get started. It helps having hardware that _just works_ (old Thinkpads).
Though starting with the base system quickly finds yourself in the deep end ... and that is when the solid foundation of a complete OS - kernel and tools developed in tandem - with docs starts to shine.
