Had a thought or two today (which means this may be a long note).
Was thinking about how badly I've done on the #carnivore diet. Started around 320 lbs, got down below 260, now in the 290s. I'm a augar addict.
In fact, I am addicted to (at least) 3 things. Sugar, caffeine, and nicotine. I've found that I can win against one addiction, do moderately OK against two, but have not been able to kick all three at once.
What I realized today is that it isn't the carnivore diet's fault. It is 100% my fault, for not consistently adhering to the diet. I haven't had a bowl of spaghetti or a side of beans since April before last, but I've had the occasional donut or cookie. October this year was a disaster, with several bags of candy down the piehole. I was able to begin reigning it in last month, but it was far from perfect. So far December is going surprisingly well.
But it is my fault I am almost 300 lbs. Not society's fault, not my wife's fault, or a diet, or genetics. Not even the food and drug cabal. Could I blame them? Sure, but I choose not to be their victim.
That was half of the thought. The second half came way out of left field.
Bitcoin taught me this.
Yes, the little tech discovery that finally deluvered absolute scarcity into our millieu. When you take responsibility for your own wealth, it changes something inside. By controlling your own keys, not relying on a custodian, and doing the work to secure your wealth as best you know how, means that if you fucked up, it is your fault. Not Coinbase. Not Blackrock. You. Not your government, or your family, or your station in life, just you.
This doesn't matter if you are living in China, the global South, or the affluent Western world. Check your biases, but having true ownership, sovereignty over at least ONE thing means you see how to expand that ownership to other parts of your life. Here we are doing it with social media, and our reputations. In other realms we are taking responsibility for our health, our families, and ultimately our time.
It is no accident that bitcoin fixes this. Absolute scarcity means you can't just create more if you fuck up. If you lose your wealth, denominated in bitcoin, it's gone. Same goes for your health, and that is why diet, activity, environments that aren't trying to kill us with various toxic chemicals or damaging rays and fields - all of that matters to a bitcoiner. Our reputations matter too, and that is why we #nostr. Your reputation, denominated in Bitcoin.
Will I prevail over my addictions? I can't tell you for certain. But either way, I own the outcome. That might be why December is going better. I've been nicotine-free since July 15 2024. I quit caffeine for a few weeks, mostly to prove I could. But it led to weight gain, because I would replace coffee with snacks. (Caffeine is NOT technically an appetite suppresant.)
So my focus has to be my health, denominated in Bitcoin. I can only stack sats and increase my wealth as long as I am healthy enough to convert my life energy and time into bitcoin.
It is me. Mine. That's it. Sugar is my shitcoin. Sugar is proof-of-stake (that of the companies that benefit from it.)
Enough for tonight. GN.
